Iran: gone

Nima Latif Tojjar has been arrested December 27 at the university.
Judge Salavati at branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court has sentenced him to 3 years in prison and a fine of $100.
The verdict reads two years for “assembly and conspiracy with intent to act against national security” and one year for “resisting police orders.”
The fine was given for one count of “insulting the president.”
He was acquitted on one count of “causing damage to public property".
Latif has no history of political activities.

According to Human Right Activists News Agency (HRANA),is Seyyed Mehdi Khodaei, student activist and former head of Human Rights Committee student's unit, vanished after widespread raids against Human Rights Activists’ (HRA) members on March 2nd and 3rd, 2010.
It is possible that he is arrested by the ministry of information.
Khodaei was recently sentenced to 4 years in prison by branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court.
The ministry of information tried to arrest at least 27 current or former members of HRA.

On Ashura and Tasua (December 26-27), more then 3750 trees were cut in the Zagros Forests in province Lorestan.
Every year thousands of trees are cut illegally for the bonfires on ashura and tasua.
In 2006 3000 near Tehran were illegally cut near Tehran.
The bonfires and its environmental impact on air pollution in Tehran forced the Tehran Natural Resources Office to press charges against the city.
Despite legislation which bans construction of industrial parks or mining activities in preserved areas, government and private sector developers often bend the regulations in their favour.

Amnesty International has urged Iran to release journalist and womansrightsactivist Hengameh Shahidi immediately.
Last week Shahidi started serving a six-year sentence at Tehran's Evin Prison, after an appeal court ruling upheld her conviction.



De Sahamnews website reports that the passport of Mohammad Taghi Karoubi, a son of Mehdi Karroubi and university professor was taken Friday at the international Imam Khomeini.
Mohammad Karroubi was traveling to London for academic activities, including the re-publication of his book on international law and the use of unilateral force by countries and completion of another.
