In a recent visit to the Revolutionary Court, a lawyer was told by Judge Salavati that judges have been given directives on how to issue verdicts for the Ashuradetainees.
These directives say to issue a 1-year minimum sentence, even if the accused was arrested away from the scene of the clashes.
Nobody may be acquitted who is arrested on the day of Ashura.
For people who were arrested on the site of the clashes the verdict is longer and could include lashes. Some Ashura detainees have even received death sentences.
