Iran: teach July 29 2012

This autumn 2 new courses for how to be a prison warden will be started at two higher educational colleges. This coincides the abolition of several social science degrees at prominent institutions.
According to the head of Iran's prisons there are 220.000 prisoners nationwide.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered a halt to the expansion of a range of social sciences degrees, including women’s studies, human rights and law, after declaring them “founded on materialism” hostile to Islam.
By contrast, the jail warden courses – offered under the title “Judiciary Aid Work” – have the highest official blessing after senior prison officials spent three years preparing them.

According to Farhad Denshjoo, the chancellor of one of Iran’s Free Islamic Universities, 80% of the lecturers at these private educational establishments will be vetted by student members of the Basij militia. He called on them to spend the next three months investigating appointees’ backgrounds and passing the information on to the personnel department.
The revolutionary guard and the bassij militias are increasingly involved in the social and political life of the country.

It is reported that the health of political prisoner Esmaeil Barzegari, who is in hospital is getting worse. Barzegari who has launched a hunger strike eight times, was arrested in April 2011 in Tabriz and was sentenced to 7½ years in prison on charges of acting against national security.
Till now each time he was in hungerstrike, him was promised a review but that has not occurred as of yet.
