Iran: symbol

A grandson of ayatollah Khomeini, Ali Esraghi has withdrawn from next week's parliamentary polls after a smearcampaign.
On internetsites appeared "rumours" about his life. His sister Zahra Esraghi told Sarmayeh newspaper that he decided to withdraw at the request of the family of imam Khomeini.
Esraghi was among hundreds of reformist candidates disqualified, but was then reinstated after the veto caused uproar from many prominent figures.


In the National Museum in Tehran is coinciding with the beginning of Iranian New Year (March 21 Norouz) an exhibition titled Spring Symbols.
Historical objects from prehistoric, pre-Islamic and Islamic era up to the present day Iran adorned with flower and fish designs that show the importance of spring symbols in Iranian art will be showcased in the exhibition.


According to the acts of Iran’s confectioners’ craft union, none of the confectioners of Tehran has to increase the price of new yearsconfections.
The managing director of the Cooperative Company of confectioners said that the price of confections in the New Year will be like that of the current year’s and the inspectors of the craft union will supervise the price and quality of the products.


Iranian archeologists have discovered the smallest clay dish and the oldest date seed .
The dish measures 8mm in length and 2cm in width and dates back to the third millennium BC.
The date seed is 50000 old.
The cultural heritage deputy of Hormozgan Province said that the discovery suggests that economic life in the area was primarily centered on date palms 5,000 years ago.
