The human rights organization "Human rights Watch" and "Child Rights Information Network - CRIN" have taken initiative for a petition to end all executions of juvenile offenders.
Several other human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Iran Human Rights have joined the petition.
Every state in the world has undersigned treaties obligating them to ensure that juvenile offenders—persons under 18 at the time of the crime-are never sentenced to death.
The majority of states comply with this obligation, only five states are known to have executed juvenile offenders since 2005.
With this petition local, national, regional, and international non-governmental organizations from every part of the world, call on each UN member state to fully implement the absolute ban on the juvenile death penalty, as required by customary law, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and as highlighted by the Secretary-General’s recent study on violence against children.

The Lebanese newspaper Daily Star reports that daily Etemad writes that Iranian Minister of Energy Fattah Wednesday warned that power cuts also can be possible in autumn and winter.
He said that cheap electricity and the resulting high levels of consumption were to blame for the inability to meet demand.Also severe drought hit hydroelectric power generation.
In March 2005 previous parliament froze energy and fuel prices as a "gift to the Iranian people.".
The Ministry of Energy needs $4 billion to pay her debts and sits between a row between government and parliament about price.Fattah means that the decision has to be withdrawn, but the parliament doesn't agree.
But MPs say the government is to blame for a lack of investment in power generation.


Iranian media say that hackers hacked hundreds of websites of Shiite clerics and seminary schools.
Iranian statetelevision says that the hackers are Sunni moslims, situated outside of Iran.
Newsagency Fars reported that the hackers blocked acces to over 300 websites and were based in the United Arab Emirates.

Iran: writing

An earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted September 17th at 22.13 local time Bandar Abbas near Queshm Island, Hormuzgan province in Iran.
Till now several aftershocks of 4.1 and 4 are felt.
Although the quakes caused panic among local residents, according to IRNA there are no reports of any casualty or damage to property.


According to the Committee to Support Hunger Strike by Kurdish Political Prisoners and Civil Rights Advocates were September 14, nine hungerstrikers in Oromieh Prison transferred to solitary confinement.
Their names are: Morad Diar, Mostafa Ali-Ahmad, Balal Chiligar, Nehad Tonjehar, Omar Chaparaz, Jomhoor Azgoch,Ahsan Tepoz and Yousef Atsaz.
37 political and civil rights prisoners had decided to go on hunger strike for an unspecified period of time,to protest the discrimination, torture and execution of the Kurd ethnic minority in Iran.
They composed a letter with conditions for ending the hunger strike and wanted to hand this to prison authorities. This was not allowed and the letter was torn.
After a second attempt to hand over a letter, the nine men were transferred into solitary confinement.


The Coalition of Human Rights Advocates in Iran reports that Parham Aghdasi is an ex-stdent atomic physics in the University of Bou-Ali Sina in the city of Hamedan. He is from the Baha'i-faith.
End 2006 he was expelled from university based on a ruling from 1991 that people of the Bahaí-faith not are allowed to study. As a solution for him it was suggested he should convert to islam.
He wrote different letters to the Ministry of Education and the Supreme Council of Revolution,which were not received by the addressants, this in violation of article 25 in the constitution.
Also he went to Tehran to personally visit the Ministry of Education, the entrance exam qualification center, and the Revolutionary Council. They all referred the responsibility to the jurisdiction of the other organizations.
After that he decided to go in court, but he did not have written evidence of his expulsion of the university.
And it proved to be impossible to obtain this order.
Every reference to his expell leads back to the secret document from 1991 .
Article 3, in reference to the position of the Bahaei in Iran states:
the regime must confront them in such a way that all means of progress and development are blocked to them.
Also in reference to culture:
in universities, either during entry or while studying, Bahaeis must be expelled.
The judge rejected the case, due to the missing order.

Irannewsdaily reports September 3rd, website TABNAK wrote that female clients who referred to Road Construction Department of Kerman Province were stunned after security guards pushed them back.
The women wrote a protest letter to the head of department. There is no answer yet.



In Irannewsdaily is reported that a study by a student from Al-Zahra university reveals that psychological violence towards women is the main cause of suicidal thoughts, even if they have familymembers who back-up.
Based on this, suicidal thoughts among women with more education are less, compared to others.According to this income and economic parameters are irrelevant.
Sociologist Dr. Fazeli believes that drug addiction, marital abuse, ignorance about social and legal rights, unemployment, violence, sales of properties and women’s dowry and insistence on conduction of unlawful acts by women to make ends meet are some of the concerns women are facing in the community.
Dr. Fazeli underlined that the majority of women are completely unaware of their rights and become familiar with them only after attending judicial sources for resolution of disputes and benefiting from their guidelines.


The reformist daily Etemad Daily has been fined six million rials for "propagating lies".
The newspapers attorney intends to appeal.

Iran: implement

Amnesty International wrote in a statement her concern about the safety and health from more than 50 Kurdish prisoners of conscience and death row prisoners who went on hungerstrike in protest against continuing torture, executions and other abuses of human rights.
The protests include 15 prisoners who are being held in Sanandaj, 33 at Oroumiye, three at Saqqez and four who are being held in Tehran.
Amnesty continues to call for an end to torture, executions and other human rights violations in Iran, to release the three woman rights activists Zeynab Beyezidi, Hana Abdi en Ronak Saffarzadeh and for the suspension of all death sentences, including those against hunger strikers Arslan Oliya’i, Anvar Hossein Panahi, Habib Latifi, Farhad Kamangar, Farhad Vakili and Ali Haydariyan.


The newspaper Kargazoran and newsagency Fars wrote that the deathsentence of a woman is approved and sent to the section for implementation.
The woman, Zahra is sentenced to death for the murder on her husband, 7 years ago.


Anspress reports that September 10, in the house of poet Sayyad Mahammadian, during iftar officers of the Iranian Intelligence and Security Ministry arrested the wife and children of Abbas Lisani, and 20 other people.
The editor –in-chief of Yashmag journal poet Said Muganli, the activists Alirza Sarrafi, Akbar Azad, Hasan Rashidi, Hasan Rahimi, Mehdi Naimi, Mahammad Abbaspur, Sayyad Mahammadian, Abbas Naimi, Yusif Hushyar, Shahnaz Ibrahimzadeh, Huseyn Heydari, Ferhad Rizayi Goshachayli, Rubab Azimi, and Akram Naccari are still detained.
Rugeyya Lisani, the wife of Abbas Lisani, one of the leaders of the movement for the rights of Iranian Azerbaijanis, and their children Atilla Lisani en Ogtay Lisani are released.



Iran denied reports that the vessel hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden was carrying a 'dangerous consignment'.
The pirates say they opened the cargo of the Iranian ship, and several Somalis died, while others lost hair and suffered skin burns. The Iranian shipping company denies these rapports and also denies having paid $200,000.
Andrew Mwangura of East African Seafarers' Assistance Program says that the Iranian ship was to be released but that the pirates want more money.
The shipping company says that Iran reserves the right to file a lawsuit against Andrew Mwangura at an authorized international court for spreading lies.
The ship was carrying 42,500 tons of minerals and industrial products for a German firm.

Iran: halt

In Iran is the deathsentence for Rahim Ahmadi, 20, approved by the Head of Justice ayatollah Hashemi Sharouhdi.
He is sentenced to death for a murder he committed when he was 15. According to his lawyer he acted from self-defence,which the court did not pay attention to.
According to lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei 6 more children are sentenced to death.
Saber Sharbati, Mohammad Rasouli, Iman Shirvani, Vahid Latifi, Mehdi Riyahi, Hossein Azad.
The last three names can be the same as those only named by first names on the list of Stop Child Execution.



The Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance (MCIG) warned newspapereditors not to publish reports about executions in the country.
In two separate letters from the ministry, the editors of Kargozaran and Etemaad dailies were ordered not to publish news of executions in particular that of minors, since they have adverse international effects.
Also, journalists insisting on covering the news should be laid off.
In the past few weeks, agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) contacted editorials across the country ordering them to fire reporters eager to cover executions.
The dailies Kargozaran, Etemaad, Etemaad-Meli and Sarmaeh as well as Shahrvand weekly are on top of the list of warned newspapers so far.
According to National Council of Resistance of Iran have the names of suspected columnists, news editors, and reporters of various dailies and publications appeared on the MOIS's black list.
The MOIS has demanded that all the firings end before the presidential elections next June. The editors were strictly ordered not to mention anything about MOIS pressure.



According to National Council of Resistance of Iran a group of physicians striked Friday outside the local office of the Organization of Iranian Physicians (OIP) in Shiraz.
They protested to their unpaid benefits for last six months.Despite mandatory regulations set by the OIP, the private hospitals have refused paying the striking physicians.
Physicians are supposed to have the highest pay grade in the country. However, in many cases, suppressive measures adopted by the government have caused major problems for physicians.



Interior Minister Kordan said that a group of experts will head to Afghanistan and Pakistan to negotiate the release of the hostages and to discuss border security issues.
In june has the Jondollahgroup abducted 16 borderguards in Sistan-e-Baluchestan and transferred them to Pakistan. They claim to have killed four of the hostages.
In the beginning of August kidnapped unknown gunmen two Iranian civil engineers from their construction workshop in Afghanistan's western province of Herat. Those men were employees of the Islamic Republic's 115 Road Construction Company, which is in charge of highway constructions in the province of Herat in Afghanistan.

According to daily Etemad, studentleader Bahram Vahedi, head of Zanjan University Islamic Association of Students, is released on a two billion rial bail.
He and other students were arrested after Zanjan university students protested the university vice-president's sexual harassment of a female student.
Studentactivist Sorena Hashemi who was imprisoned for a month in connection of the protests at Zanjan university and the publishing of a videoclip about it, is released on a 200 million Toman bail.
Release of studentactivists Arash Raeiji and Payam Shakiba and other detained students is still unknown.


Daily Farda reported that fourteen Iranian ministers are summoned to appear before parliament this week.
The Science Minister Mohammad-Mehdi Zahedi, Education Minister Ali-Reza Ali-Ahmadi, Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nozari, new appointed Minister of Economy and Finance Shamsoddin Hosseini, Minister of Welfare and Social Security Abdoreza Mesri and Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki are among them.


Despite the fact that the quotum of 74 parlementarians had signed a motion to summone President Ahmadinejad to appear in parliament, the speaker for parliament was reluctant.
Ahmadinejad had to appear before parliament to explain Vice President Rahim-Mashaie 's remarks about Israel.

Iran: measure

Fridaymorning an autobus, carrying 32 passengers felt from a bridge on the highway from Tehran to Karaj.
At least 15 people got killed and 14 others injured.
A traffic police report said the driver probably fell asleep and lost control of the bus.


Saturday, at 05.34 local time, an earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter scale, hit Bandar Kagan on the shores of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr Province.
No reports of casualties or damages are known.
Earlier this week a major earthquake of 6.1 magnitude struck the same coast at Bandar Khamir and Qeshm island.

Iran: poor

Several aftershocks of magnitude 3.8, 4.5 and 4.9 on the Richterscale have hit Hormuzgan province.
First aid and trauma response groups have already been dispatched to the worst-hit region of Wednesday 6.1 earthquake.


According to the human rightsgroup Christian Solidarity Worldwide the Iranian parliament Wednesday voted in favor of a draft law which approves the deathsentence for apostacy.
The law was accepted with 196 votes in favor, seven against, and two abstentions.
The draftbill adds several crimes to the list of acts that would result in execution, including “establishing weblogs and sites promoting corruption, prostitution, and apostasy.” Reportedly Iran removed the news of the approval within hours of publishing it from the parliamentary website.
But the news of the approval was also published by other newsagencies and newspapers (Resalat).
The approved draftbill will be sent back to the Legislative Commission to debate proposed amendments before it is brought back to the Parliament for another vote




An official told IRNA that due to drought in Hormuzgan province, some 500 villages are seriously facing shortage of drinking water.
The managing director of the provincial Water and Sewerage Department told that measures have been taken to prevent this by supplying water by tanks, rationing and using water desalination systems.
A sum of 20 bln rials is earmarked to tackle the problem and some 60 bln rials was also added due to the government's recent approvals.
Some 500 wells have been dug to alleviate the situation but 120 of them did not produce water.
To supply water to all the villages in the province there is a need for a budget of 1,000 bln rials.

August 31 is a man hanged in Boroujerd.
The man, Ali Sadeghi, was sentenced to death for the murder on Hossein Ashurpour in 2007.



A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on Richterscale has Wednesday, September 10th, jolted the portcity of Bandar Khamir, Hormuzgan province.
The earthquake happened at 15.30 local time.
According to the head of provincial disaster management headquarters, the earthquake demolished nearly 200 villages. The earthquake killed at least five people and injured 46 others.
The tremors were felt in the UAE. The oilfactories in Bandar Abbas were not damaged.
Afterwards the earthquake was followed by two aftershocks, measuring 4.8 and 4.4 on the Richter scale.


Tuesdaynight heavy storms and floods in Chaharmahal-va-Bakhtiyari Province cost the lives of 16 people.
50 houses and 300 ricefields were destroyed. Also five fishfarms were destroyed and 1,030 cattle killed.
In Khuzestan province 3 people got killed by the storms and four others injured.
Meteorologists say the storms will last till Thursday.



The prosecutor in Fars province called for apostasy charges against two christians detained in Iran.
Mahmoud Matin, 35 and Arash Basirat, 40 were in May arrested in Shiraz by the Ministry of Intelligence.
According to the persianlanguage christian newsagency in Shiraz they are charged with disseminating propaganda against the regime of the Islamic Republic, agitating public opinion, publishing malicious materials, and insulting Ayatullah Khomeini, Ayatullah Khamenei and regime authorities.
The newsagency also reports that 14 days ago in the city of Mashhad Ramtin Soodmand, is arrested. In July are 16 christians arrested in Isfahan.
Although in penal laws of the Islamic Republic a specific punishment has not been defined for apostasy, according to religious law, conversion from Islam is considered apostasy and punishable by death.
December last year are 14 christians arrested in the cities of Rasht, Karaj and Tehran.
In May were 10 christians arrested in Shiraz.

Iran: paper

According to a statement of Human Rights Watch are five countries in the world responsible for all executions of juvenile offenders since 2005.
In total are since January 2005 32 juvenile offenders executed:
Iran (26), Saudi Arabia (2), Sudan (2), Pakistan (1), and Yemen (1). Iran is known to have executed six juvenile offenders so far in 2008, including two in August.
There are over 130 juveniles currently sentenced to death.







Stop Child Executions reports that the attorney Mohammad Mostafaei and other human rights defenders regularly email the news related to child executions to a mailing list of media and human right organizations.
The hardline newspaper Kayhan is also on this list.
In response to receiving the news of recent approval of an Iranian juvenile (Hossein),the editor of Kayhan newspaper sent the following response today:
"Subject: RE: Hossein's execution verdict was approved
Please do not send mail to me, your news is not interesting to me."

According to a report of newsagency ISCA is the deathsentence of Hossein(19-year-old)
approved by Branch 31 of Iran's supreme court.
He is sentenced to death for killing Ali, 30-year-old by a knife during a group street fight on November 9, 2006. Hossein says that his confession was obtained under pressure and he is
not guilty, although witnesses have testified against him.

ISCA newsagency says that Ali M. who was sentenced to death for stabbing Ramin is pardoned and and saved from execution in the city of Qom by Ramin's parents after receipt of $75,000 as part of the blood money.
It is likely that Ali M. is the same juvenile as Ali Moradzadeh Zagheh from the city of Qom on the Stop Childs Executionslist .


According to the Deputy Police Chief of Sistan-e-Baluchestan province, the group Jondollah released one of sixteen policeofficers, who were kidnapped in Saravan in June.
He also said that Iran paid nothing in return for the release.


AFP reports that an advisor to President Ahmadinejad urged Interior Minister Ali Kordan in comments posted on his blog "to take the fair and brave decision as society expects before others take the correct decision on this issue."
Ali Kordan became controversially when, shortly after his appointment to Interior Minister, a honorary diploma, given to him by Oxford University, apparently was a fake.
Initially, President Ahmadinejad was defending his new minister, because a person cannot be judged over his qualities for a piece of paper but he later ordered a probe into all academic qualifications obtained by government officials since 1985.

Iran: notable

An accident with an Iranian passengerbus in Turkey at the town of Dogubayazit, Agri province near the Iranian border cost the lives of 14 people, leaving 23 people injured, some of them seriously.
The accident occurred when the bus overturned.


The production of each kilogram of sugar is much higher than the price of the imported one.The Managing Director of Sugar Industries Company at the Mostazafan Foundation said that unregulated sugar imports has led to a huge reduction in domestic production.
Before, the production of sugar beet was 6.7 million tons per year, last year it was 4.2 million tons and according to him this year’s production has been slashed to just about 1.5 million tons.
The demand is around 1.9 million tons per year, but official figures estimate that over three million tons of cheap sugar that undercut local produce have been imported.
The head of Khuzestand Industry and Mine House says that mafia groups based in neighboring countries are also trying to disrupt Iran’s sugar market by purchasing the product in bulk and creating an artificial shortage.
Sugar industry experts believe that Iran could attain self-sufficiency in sugar in coming years with the implementation of a Sugar Industry Development Project.


Iranian authorities have ended the search for Hussein Al-Fadhala, a Kuwaiti who was reported missing in Iran. The Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait said that all security forces in Iran including the Navy and Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) have not found anything that could lead to Al-Fadhala's whereabouts.
The ambassador sent a letter to the Kuwaitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirming that Hussein Al-Fadhala was not detained in any of the Iranian prisons.


Three Amir Kabir University students have been barred by the Sanjesh Organization from continuing their academic studies.
Ali Saberi, Puyan Mahmoudian and Nasser Pouyafar had been already warned by the university's disciplinary committee about their political activities.
The Sanjesh Organization is in charge of holding nation-wide university entrance exams.
A group of “starred” students and individuals have written a letter to the Minister of Science protesting the harsh disciplinary measures that lock them out of higher education.
In this letter it says that, among other things, since he was appointed Minister of Science, three years ago, expelling students from education has increased.
Three years ago approximately 1750 students had qualified academically to continue their studies at a higher level, but after the announcement of the results, students were given one, two, or three stars. Seventeen three-starred students were refused final registration.
Even though the students made an official complaint and the Divan-e Edalat-e Edari (Administrative Tribunal) issued a provisional order for university admission to some of these students, university officials refused to obey the order and the students were not allowed.
The past two years this is repeated, with this difference that students are told to go to the office for faculty and student selection, which is located on the fourth floor of the Sanjesh Organization where they've been told that, although they qualified academically for graduate-school admission, they failed to meet the general requirements and are instantly barred from the country’s universities.
Furthermore the last two years, the suspension rulings for studentactivists are exceptional heavy so they exceed the number of semesters allotted to students to complete their education at the university. As a result they cannot complete their study.
They ask Dr. Zahedan to look critically at his policies and where necessary, change them.

Iran: procedure

At least four young people between 16 and 18 years got killed and another two injured when mortars, leftover from the Iran-Iraqwar exploded.
The explosion occurred near Sarpol-Zahab, Kermanshah province, near the Iran-Iraq border.



For the first time have 250,000 visas for Iran been issued electronically.
Since six months tourists can visit the Iranian Foreign Ministry website.
After filling out the application form and the approval they can now receive the visum in less then 72 hrs.
They can choose to receive the visa either at Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport or at an official agency in their home country.


Saturday, September 6th, journalist, member of the One Million Signatures Campaign, and editor of the site of Women in Iran, Jila Baniyagoob appeared for Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.
She was summoned with the charge with disruption of public order, and refusal to obey the orders of the police.
These charges and the summons were following her arrest on June 13, 2008 with 8 other women after a seminar on the occasion of commemorating the Day of Solidarity of Iranian Women in opposition to legal discrimination was cancelled.

She denied all charges.
Her lawyer, Mina Jafari was prevented from attending the hearing with as reason "the case against your client is a security case As such you are not allowed to be present during the hearing."
After the hearing a bailorder of $55,000 was issued.
Last month, the other four women charged in this case Nafiseh Azade, Farideh Ghaeb, Sarah Loghmani and Aida Saadat, were also issued the same bail order.
The nine women are apart from Jila Baniyaghoob, Nahid Mirhaj, Aida Saatad, Nafiseh Azad, Nasrin Sotoodeh, Farideh Ghaeb, Sarah Loghmani, Jelve Javaheri, and Alieh MotalebZadeh.(Photo)
