The man, A.Y. was convicted for murder.

February 18 told the Iranian Human Rights Organization to Trend News that in the prison of Isfahan five men were hanged.
They all were convicted for for selling large consignments of narcotics.


This morning is in Al-Ghadir mosque in Zahedan, Sistan-e-Baluchestanprovince a soundbomb exploded.
Reports say that no-one was injured and there was minor damage.
A motorcyclist tried to enter the building and had apparently set off the bomb outside the building when he was prevented from entering.


February 17th, since 2006 in Iran imprisoned Abdullah Al Mansouri told his family in a telephonic conversation that he was sentenced to thirty years in prison, in a prison in Northern Iran.
He was charged with terrorism.


The spokesman for the Iranian judiciary said that there is no suspect by the name of Robert Levinson in Iranian prisons.
Last month, the USA started new efforts to find out the whereabouts of Levinson who disappeared on Kish Island.





The seven leaders of the Bahai faith who have been detained for more than eight months in Iran have been officially accused of espionage.
The judiciary spokesman said that next week, an indictment will be issued and will be discussed in court.

Iran: investigation

5700 Iranian lawyers have filed a petition to ayatollah Shahroudi in which they ask to prosecute 24 Israelian leaders and commanders for their crimes in the Gaza Strip.
They based their reasoning for the prosecution on international and domestic laws and presented eight sets of documents which provide evidence of war crimes and genocide in Gaza.
The 23-day fight against Palestinians in Gaza claimed near 1,400 Palestinian lives and wounded 5,450 others.



Iranian police have killed 10 armed drug smugglers in a clash near the city of Taybad, Khorasan Razavi Province and confiscated 1,284kg of narcotics.
Police also confiscated ammunitions and weapons.
Iran spends $600 million annually to fight against narcotics that are transited into Europe via Iran.


The Brazilian oilfirm Petrobras has announced the discovery of an oil field in the Tusan bloc in the Iranian waters of the Persian Gulf.
Since 2004 has the company been contracted by Iran to carry out exploration, and has so far invested around $100 million in exploration for oil.
When the Tusan exploration study is finalized, the company would not be involved in eventual production from the bloc, but is discussing something along the lines of production sharing.
In accordance to Iranian constitutional regulations, no foreign oil or gas company can hold incorporative contracts in Iran but they can finance or involve in product sharing.


The Health Ministry cited a new charge against the Aidsdoctors Arash and Kamyar Alaei who have been sentenced to six years in prison for attempts towards the peaceful overthrow of the regime.
The new charge is “Slander against Islamic Republic efforts in combating AIDS”.
The international organizations “Physician for Human Rights”, “Human Rights Watch Organization” and “Human Rights International Campaign in Iran”, issued a joint statement in which they demanded all charges against Alaei brothers to be dropped and both to be set free.

Iran: intentions

The childoffender Rahim Ahmadi is scheduled to be executed Wednesday, in Adelabaprison in Shiraz.
He is convicted for a murder he alledgedly committed when he was 15-years-old.
On the blog of his lawyer, Mohammad Mostafaei is a letter (fa) which the lawyer has written to Iran Human Rights.


Various reports, among them blog Iran-human-rights.blogspot.com write about an execution of seven prisoners which is scheduled in the Dastgerprison in Isfahan.

Mohammad Gorgi-25 ( convicted for drug trafficking)- has been in prison for 2 years.
Omid Nuri-27 , has been in prison for 5 years.
Yasin Jafari-27, ( convicted for drug trafficking), has been in prison for 4 years.
Abbasali Ghasemi-30, ( convicted for drug trafficking)has been in prison for 4 years,
Ali Akbar Farshadfar-40, ( convicted for drug trafficking) has been in prison for 5 years
Rasul Saburi, 25, (convicted for murder), has been in prison for 5 years.



A trainingsaircraft has crashed near the airport of Isfahan killing all five people on board.
Tabnak website said that the airplane was an Antonov An-140.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.



The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran urges Iran that prosectution of Ali Nikounesbati , spokesman for Office to Foster Unity, for exercising freedom of speech, ends.
He has been arrested two times since 2007 and five cases have been filed against him since 2007.
February 15, a trial will be held at Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, which is charging him with “gathering and conspiring,” “acting against national security” and “disturbing public order.”
He was convicted earlier to 3 months and 1 day in prison for his public advocacy regarding the sexual abuse of a female student by a university security agent in Kermanshah, as well as publicly discussing the murder of a female student allegedly by a member of the Basiji militia in Sabzevar, and protesting the barring of several graduate students from continuing their education.
Abdolfattah Soltani, a human rights lawyer who represents Ali Nikounesbati, said that he had appealed the latest sentence and hoped Nikounesbati would be acquitted by the appeals court.


The Iranian parliament's energy commission has increased the price of rationed gasoline for the next Iranian calendar year (beginning in March 2009) by 1,000 rials (about 10 cents) to 2,000 rials per liter.
On the free market gasoline prices and gas oil would be set at 4,000 rials and 500 rials respectively.
The bill needs to be approved by the parliament's budget committee before it is put to vote.
The new prices are based on oil prices of $37.5 a barrel. Oil had been set at $55 a barrel for last year's budget plan.
Due to lack of adequate refining capacity Iran has to import gasoline, despite its oil reservoirs.

Iran: speak

Daily Herald Tribune writes that Saturday a man set fire on himself in front of parliaments building and died.
Reports in Iranian newspapers say that the man was a 1980s Iran-Iraq war veteran who set himself ablaze because a lawmaker refused to discuss his problems.
The parliament speaker said the man was an ex-convict who wasn't a war veteran.



The speaker for parliament wants the government to loosen its grip on economic affairs and let the country move towards privatization.
Article 44 of the Constitution states that the economic system shall be based on public, cooperative and private sectors, with proper and sound planning.
At the moment all large-scale industries, foreign trade, large mines, banking, insurance, power supply, dams and large irrigation channels, radio and television, post, telegraph and telephone, aviation, shipping, roads, rails and the like, are public property.
He emphasized the necessity of implementing Article 44 of the Constitution to ensure Iran's economic development.




According to recent reports, about 200 workers in a pipe manufacturing plant in the city of Ahwaz held a demonstration to protest a four month delay in their salary payments.
The pipe manufacturing plant is a state-owned facility under the control of the Social Security organization.
Since the start of current calendar year, the plant has faced cash flow problems.
Last July and September the workers in the plant held also demonstrations against delayed salary payments.

Iran: result

An official of the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology told IRNA that Iran will open new branches of its universities in Syria, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Venezuela, Comoros, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
With these extensions Iran wants to encourage international scientific cooperation.




Reports on the state radio say that four members of Iran's security forces have been killed by an explosion set off in a booby-trap attack near the Pakistani border.The four agents are buried Friday in Zahedan, Sistan-e-Baluchestan province.
Two others got wounded. They did not specify when the men were killed.
There are regularly clashes with heavily armed drug smugglers and bandits on the Pakistan border.

A court sentenced three men to death for bombing a mosque in the city of Shiraz in april last year.
According to Press-TV, the spokesman for the judiciary said that 15 people were on trial of which seven of the suspected terrorists were charged with involvement in the attack, three of whom have confessed to being brainwashed by a Western terrorist cell.
At the bombattack on a mosque in Shiraz were 14 people killed and 102 people wounded.


The Baha’i World News Service denied all charges against 7 Baha'i.
A report from ISNA says that the seven individuals would be tried on charges including espionage for Israel, insulting religious sanctities and propaganda against the state.
Wednesday Baha'i World News Service reported that there is no evidence and all charges are denied.
The seven were arrested in March and May 2008 and held in Tehran’s Evin Prison,they have been denied access to their legal counsel, Shirin Ebadi.

Alireza Hashemi, the chairman of The Center for Educators’ Union said that no other option has been left for the educators then that educators will go on strike if their demands are not met by February 21.
The main demand is the execution of the 2006 accepted bill for civil services in making coordinated payments between salaries and benefits of current and retired employees.


Bahram Jandavi, from Salmas, West-Azerbaijan province is sentenced by the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad to two years in prison.
He was arrested 2 months ago on charges for membership in an anti-regime organization.



Fars newsagency reported that the Telecommunications Minister said that Iran plans to construct seven more satellites.
Three satellites will be capable of being launched into orbits of just under 36,000 kilometers and four are for low altitudes.
Iran als started a 12-year project to send an astronaut into space.




According to Iranian National Audit Office there have been at least 2,000 cases of infraction in the 2006-2007 budget.
This reports comes about a week after the announcement that $1.058 billion of surplus oil revenues had not been returned to the treasury.
President Ahmadinejad denied last month that the government had illegally withdrawn funds from the treasury.
The speaker for parliament also called for further investigations into the issue to ensure that the capital is returned to the treasury as soon as possible.

According to Global Voices Online , February 3, four Iranian bloggers and journalists were sentenced to up 3 years in prison and flogging.
Human Rights Watch reports that Omid Memarian, Roozbeh Mirebrahimi, Shahram Rafizadeh, and Javad Gholamtamimi were arrested September 2004 and that they were tortured during interrogation to coerce them to confessions.
In a meeting with the head of judiciary, ayatollah Shahroudi said that the case would be investigated.
In 2005 a judiciary spokesman said that an official investigation confirmed that their confessions had been coerced.
The deputy director of the Middle East division at Human Rights Watch said that these sentences are shocking because the judiciary admitted that the evidence had been obtained by coercion.
The four journalists were released on bail in late 2004. Memarian, Mirebrahimi, and Rafizadeh subsequently left Iran and are living abroad. Gholamtamimi resides in Iran.


The First Secretary of the US Interests Section of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, Marco Kampf, is summoned by the Foreign Ministry in Switzerland over sex charges.
He had an indecent sexual relation with an Iranian woman in his diplomatic-plated car on a parkingspace in Tehran.
The Swiss Foreign Ministry spokesman called the scandal a 'regretful incident'.
The Swiss newspaper Tagesanzeiger said that both the Swiss diplomat and the Iranian woman have left Iran after they were released by the Iranian police.


Fars Newsagency reported that after an address from ayatollah Shahroudi, the Supreme Leader decreed to pardon 1,167 political, military and civil prisoners on occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Islamic Republic.

Hassan Ghashghavi, a foreign ministry spokesman for Iran, said that the fatwa on writer Salman Rushdie, spoken out in 1989 by ayatollah Khomeini, is still valid.
The fatwa was spoken out for his book "The Satanic Verses".

According to the Mediaform website three activists of the movement for rights of South Azerbaijanis, the brothers Magomed Sadig Asl, Ibrahim Sadig Asl, Ramin Sadig Asl, were arrested by officials of the department Ettelaat in Ardebil.
During a search, books, documents and a computer were confiscated.
Where they are now is not being specified.


On the site Iran Human Rights Voices is an interview with Mohammad Sayadi, political director of the Islamic Society at Buali Sina University in Hamedan.
He is sentenced January 19 by the court in Hamedan in a closed trial session without the presence of a lawyer, to six and a half year in prison.
He was charged according to articles 498, 500 and 514 of Islamic Penal Code, accusing him of disturbing national security, acting against the regime, and insulting the founders of the government.
Before the trial he has also been suspended from study at the university and spent three days in a jail from the Ministry of Intelligence.
In the interview he tells about the abuse in prison and also about threats to his familymembers.



Soon seven Bahai will be tried on charges including espionage for Israel.
The prosecutor for Tehran told ISNA that the cases were investigated and will be sent to the revolutionary court next week.
The charges are: espionage for Israel, insulting religious sanctities and propaganda against the Islamic republic.
He did not say if the seven being charged were the same as those arrested in January.

Iran: domestically and abroad

In the second year of One Million Signatures Campaign, activists have started to address more specifically and systematically the laws that they are seeking to change.
A specific working group has been set to change the legal age of criminal responsibility which is currently set at 9 years for girls and 15 years for boys.
At the same time, the age of legal responsibility in other areas such as voting for example tends to be higher for girls and boys, or the legal age of marriage for girls is higher than their legal age of criminal responsibility.
The working group will conduct research activities designed to examine the legal age in Iran as well as that of other countries, especially Islamic countries.

An oiltanker which was transporting 30,000 tons of oilcondensates from Iran to the United Arab Emirates, collided in the harbour of Dubai with a containership and caught fire in a ships channel at the city's Jebel Ali Port.
No casualties have been reported.
Clouds of smoke could be seen rising from the area of the collision.
Firemen are trying to contain the blaze.




Iranian filmmaker Elham Asadi is making a documentary about Iran's first female tourist who pedaled around the world in 16 months.
The film, called The Peace Route is the story of Poupeh Mahdavi-Nader who started her trip in 2003.
She visited numerous countries including Italy, France, the UK, the US, Japan, New Zealand, China, the Netherlands, Oman, and the Vatican.
She raised funds for Iranian orphans and underprivileged children and brought the message of love, friendship and world peace.
The film is mostly filmed in northern Iran, Tehran, the Alborz mountainside and a number of countries where Mahdavi-Nader traveled.



The Iranian government allows free trade between Iran and Persian Gulf Cooperation Council.
This means that the trade tariffs among Iran and the Persian Gulf states will be reduced to a minimum level.
This will boost the trade between Iran and these states, because of the same tariff conditions.

Iran: decline

The National Council of Resistance in Iran writes that last week in the prison of the city of Semnan two men were hanged in secret.
The men were missing since November 2008.
Their names are not known.

According tothe daily Jomhouri Eslami are Thursday in the prison of the city of Kermanshah three men hanged.
The men, Naser Ahmadi, Saeed Jannati and Farzad Jannati were convicted for murdering a businessman in 2003.


February 3, Reza Negahdari, a third year law student of the university of Tehran was abducted by agents of the intelligence ministry (MOIS).
Negahdahri,secretary and spokesman for Iranian Freedom-loving Students,was suspended from university already for his political activities and his participation on the protest against president Ahmadinejad in October 2007.
His familymembers get no information whatsoever about his whereabout or charges against him.


According to the Central Bank in Iran the inflation dropped from 26.4 percent in the previous month to 24%.
This report is a significant fall since September when inflation was 29.5%.
The director of the Central Bank wants to cut inflation to around 22 percent by March 20, the end of the current Iranian year.


Ex-president Khatami has said he is definitely to be a candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.
He said so Sunday at a meeting with the press.

Sunday opened president Ahmadinejad and oilminister Nozari the world's largest ethylene production complex, the Jam Petrochemical Plant, in Asalouyah.
The complex will produce an annual production of 1,321,000 tons of ethylene.
The plant will increase its production to 4.2 million tons within the next few years.
